Exhibition Stands at the NEC Birmingham
Our workshop is 10 minutes from the NEC. For a stand at Birmingham that is not a marketing line - it changes what can be fixed on build day, and what a late change costs you.

Why NEC Birmingham is different
The NEC is the largest exhibition centre in the UK and the venue most British trade shows default to. It is also a venue where the practical realities of build-up decide how the week goes: 18 halls, tight build schedules and a shared loading infrastructure that does not wait for anyone.
Being 10 minutes away means a replacement part, a reprinted graphic or an extra pair of hands arrives in under half an hour. Contractors travelling from London or the North West are committing to a round trip measured in hours, and price that risk into the quote - or absorb it by building in more contingency than you needed.
Several contractors are local to the NEC, so proximity alone is not the whole argument. The other half is one contractor carrying the whole job: the team that designs the stand also builds it, brings it into the hall and takes it down, so there is no handover between companies on the busiest day of the schedule.
What we build at NEC Birmingham
The three routes below cover most stands at this venue. Which one suits you depends mainly on how often you exhibit.
- Custom exhibition stands at NEC Birmingham
- Designed for your brand and your specific space, built in our workshop and installed to the venue schedule.
- Modular exhibition stands at NEC Birmingham
- A reusable system reconfigured for each show, which lowers cost per appearance if you exhibit more than once or twice a year.
- Shell scheme upgrades at NEC Birmingham
- Where the organiser provides the walls, we handle graphics, flooring, lighting and furniture so the space stops looking like a default booth.
Health, safety and organiser approval
Every show sets its own rules on stand height, structural sign-off, rigging and the deadline for submitting risk assessments and method statements - and they vary by show, not just by venue. The regulations that applied to your last stand here may not be the ones that apply to the next.
We read the exhibitor manual for your specific show, produce the documentation it asks for, and submit it to the organiser within their deadline. That is part of the project, not an extra.
Choosing a contractor for this venue
Most exhibitors compare quotes on price and design, which are the two things easiest to compare and the two least likely to go wrong. These are the questions that actually separate contractors, and they are worth asking whoever you end up using.
- Who submits the health and safety paperwork? If the answer is you, that is a real workload and a real deadline sitting with someone who does it once a year.
- What happens if something is damaged in transit? Ask specifically how long a replacement takes to reach the hall. Distance from the venue is the whole answer.
- Is design, build and install one company or three? Every handover between companies is a place where responsibility can be disputed while your stand is unfinished.
- What is excluded from the quote? The gap between two quotes is usually not margin. It is scope one of them assumed you were buying elsewhere.
- Who is on site during the show? Build-up cover is standard. Cover during open days is not, and it is when you are most exposed.
Frequently asked questions
Do you build at NEC Birmingham?
Yes. Sovereign Exhibitions designs, manufactures and installs exhibition stands at NEC Birmingham, covering custom, modular and shell scheme projects, including the health and safety documentation the organiser requires.
How tall can my stand be at NEC Birmingham?
Height limits are set by the individual show rather than by the venue alone, and they are published in the exhibitor manual for that event. Send us the show you are booked into and we will confirm the limit that applies before any design work starts.
Can you store our stand between shows?
Yes. Storing a stand between appearances is what makes a modular or reusable stand economical, and it means the stand is checked and refurbished before it goes out again rather than arriving at the next show in the state it left the last one.
